Programme: Lentävänniemi Tram Festival
Let’s celebrate the start of tramway traffic in Lentävänniemi together on Saturday, January 4th, from 15.00 to 19.00! The Lentävänniemi Tram Festival brings a celebration of light and music to Hiedanranta in the middle of winter! The festival offers a variety of program and activities for all ages.
- The Tram Festival is brought to life by dazzling performances from Ilta, one of Finland’s most talented performers, and Bee, a rising star among the country’s most exciting new artists.
- You can experience a unique fusion of light and music, crafted by DJ Orkidea, one of the top DJs in the Nordic region, and award-winning visual artist VJ Sellek. The growing audiovisual spectacle will bathe the area in light and sound, with performances on the hour.
- Somana ry’s drama-inspired play sessions invite everyone to join in on wintry fun with the magical group Talven taikojat Huurre, Hile, Tuisku and Pyry.
- At the Hiedanranta Verstas, you’ll have the chance to chat with members of the Tampere Tram personel and test your reflexes on the reaction wall.
- You can mint your very own Tram Coin as a keepsake of the Festival.
- If you’re feeling creative, head to the art station and contribute to the event’s evolving audiovisual spectacle.
- At the The Tram Festival, you’ll have a chance to take a ride on the new route for the first time. Enjoy performances onboard and participate in a fun-filled Tram Stop Bingo game during the day.
- The Tramway Alliance wraps up building the tramway in the end of this year and celebrates the completion of their work with the Tampere Tram by thanking attendees with complimentary sausages at the Pyhällönpuisto park.
- The event kicks off with a welcome speech by Kalervo Kummola, Mayor of the City of Tampere.
- The Festival is hosted by Roosa Maskonen, winner of the 2023 Stand-Up Newcomer Award and known to many as “Ratikka-Roosa” from Yle Perjantai -show.

14.50–19.15 Festival Trams (2 trams) are operating between Santalahti and Pyhällönpuisto.
During the Tram Festival, you’ll get a chance to ride the tram to Lentävänniemi three days before the actual service starts! Hop on one of the Festival Trams at the Santalahti or Pyhällönpuisto stops during the festival. The ride on the Festival Tram is free of charge. Regular Nysse fares apply for lines 1 and 3.
Note: A lot of people are expected to attend the event and not everyone may fit on the tram at once. If that’s the case, just wait for the next Festival Tram. They run about every 20 minutes. You can also get to the Hiedanranta event area using other transport options.
- The Festival Trams (2 trams) will run on Saturday, January 4, 2025, from 14.50 to 19.15.
- Throughout the event, you’ll catch a variety of performances onboard in the – expect some surprises!
- You can spot the Festival Trams by signs that say “Ratikkajuhla.” The trams are also decorated inside.
- The trams will run about every 20 minutes between Santalahti and Pyhällönpuisto. The first tram leaves from Santalahti and Pyhällönpuisto at 14.50, and the last departure from Tehdas stop (event area) to Santalahti and Pyhällönpuisto is at 19.15.
- The Festival Trams will stop at all the new route stops: Santalahti – Hiedanranta – Tehdas (event area) – Niemen kartano – Niemenranta – Lentävänniemi – Pyhällönpuisto.

15.00– 19.00 Pop-up Performances on the Festival Trams
The Festival Trams will feature performances throughout the event day. One tram will have DJ Juissi playing Tampere-themed music across various genres to celebrate the new tram route, while in the other tram, Kalle Ruusukallio‘s Kellot trio will perform atmospheric jazz adaptments of well-known songs.
15.00–19.00 Info points are open at Hiedanranta Verstas
Come and chat with the whole Tampere Tram Family: Tampere Tramway Ltd., Tampere regional transport Nysse, the Tram Alliance and the Pirkkala-Linnainmaa Alliance of Tampere Tramway are all available for information and chat at the Verstas. Hiedanrannan Kehitys Oy will also be showcasing their work.
At the Verstas, you can let your creativity flow by taking part in creating art to be projected on the Tram Festival display wall. You can also play a reaction game and join a quiz.
A communal art piece named “Creatures of Pyhällönpuisto/Pyhällönpuiston eliöt” has been completed in Pyhällönpuisto. The artwork consists of 19 small creature sculptures installed in Pyhällönpuisto. One of the creatures will be installed inside a tram. You can vote for the name for the creature at the Verstas exhibition space.
15.00– 19.00 Theatrical play sessions by Somana ry at Hiedanranta
In Somana ry’s theatrical play sessions, the Talventaikojat – Huurre, Hile, Tuisku, and Pyry – will invite everyone to join in the fun of winter-themed games.
15.00–19.00 Sausages offered by the Tram Alliance at the Pyhällönpuisto park
The Tram Alliance is wrapping up its work with Tampere Tram after completing the construction project by the end of this year. To thank everyone for the journey, the Tram Alliance will be serving sausages near the Pyhällönpuisto stop during the Festival.
15.00–19.00 Explore the Tram art at Pyhällönpuisto park
A community art piece has been created at Pyhällönpuisto. The art piece features creature sculptures designed by Toua Heinonen and Julia Kukkonen.
15.00–19.00 Tram Stop Bingo
During the event, you can take part in a fun game of Tram Stop Bingo. The bingo can be played without getting off the Festival Tram – you just need to spot the answers to the questions on your bingo card at each stop along the route. You can pick up your bingo card at the Tampere Tramway info point at Hiedanranta Verstas.
By returning your completed card to the info point, you’ll join a raffle for a €50 Nysse gift card. There will be 3 gift cards up for grabs, and the winners will be contacted personally.
During the event, you can take part in a playful stop-spotting activity. The spotting takes place aboard the Celebration Trams. At each stop along the route, you’ll find a Rasse the Dog figure holding a letter. Collect the letters on a spotting card, which you can pick up from the at the event area.
By returning your completed spotting card to the event area or the Santalahti tram stop, you’ll have the chance to win a €50 Nysse gift card. Three gift cards will be raffled, and the winners will be contacted personally.
15.00– 19.00 Mint Your Own Tram Coin at Hiedanranta
You’ll have the chance to mint your own souvenir coin from the Lentävänniemi Tram Festival.
