Tampere Tramway is looking for artists via an open portfolio application
The construction of Tampere’s tramway is moving forward, and now it’s time to find new artists to create works of art for the infrastructure. The portfolio application process focuses on art for Kekkosentie Bridge and the nearby support wall and the support walls beside the Turtola tram stop. The portfolio application is open from 22 May until 13 June 2019.
The art on Tampere Tramway’s landscape structures will be integrated as part of the infrastructure in selected locations. These locations are the Kekkosentie Bridge in Kaleva, which was built specifically for the tramway and crosses the busy Kekkosentie road near the ABC service station, and the Turtola tram stop on the Hervannan valtaväylä road, where the long, tall support walls of the stop have been designated as a surface for art.
The artists for these sites will be selected by means of a portfolio application process. Based on the portfolios submitted by the deadline, a draft will be commissioned from the artist or group of artists selected for each site. The drafts must be completed by the end of 2019 and the works of art by spring 2021 at the latest. The application forms and more detailed information about the sites and practices is available on the Tampere Tramway art website www.tampereenratikka.fi/ratikantaide/
An information event about the application process will be held on Friday 24 May from 14–17 at Galleria Nottbeck in the Finlayson area. At that time, a representative of Frei Zimmer Oy will be available to answer any questions and provide instructions about taking part in the application process. You can attend the event at any time while it’s open.
The next artist applications for Tampere Tramway art will open in autumn 2019. Artists for these sites will also be selected on the basis of open portfolio application processes.
More information and detailed instructions concerning the portfolio applications as well as the registration forms are available on the Tampere Tramway art website at: www.tampereenratikka.fi/ratikantaide/
