Tips for you

Traveling by tram is easy and fluent. However, there are a few things to keep in mind before getting on board.

Get to know the tram route

Trams run every 7.5 minutes during the daytime, with an interval of 3–4 minutes in the city centre. At transfer stops, passengers can change to buses under a covered platform without thresholds or the need to cross the street.

Tram line 1 runs between Kauppi campus area (Tays hospital) and Santalahti, and line 3 runs between Hervantajärvi and Sorin aukio square.

Journey planner helps you plan your trip

With a bit of planning, you can make your first trip so comfortable that the next ones become an easy routine. The journey planner helps you plan your trip with real-time schedules from your door to your destination. You can also check how trams and buses work together.

Trams and buses have common travel rules

Passengers with a wheel chair or rollator travel in the tram free of charge. The assistant’s trip is included if the destination is shared. The tram trip is also free of charge for passengers with prams and pushchairs, children under the age of 7 and for pets. Big means of transport such as bicycles and electric kickboards require the purchase of a single ticket.

Buy the ticket in advance or with contactless payment

At the tram, the driver focuses solely on driving. Use your Nysse travel card by showing it to the card reader. You can also pay with the Nysse Mobile smartphone app and contactless payment. With contactless payment you can pay only for your own trip. The device will charge you one price for the trips you make in 90 minutes. In addition, you can buy an advance ticket from Nysse Customer Service and most Nysse sales points. The ticket needed in trams includes zones A-B.

Travel by tram

No need to wave hands

The tram stops at every stop. However, feel free to wave goodbye for the driver or your fellow passengers.

Enter through the middle doors

Please be sure to give space to departing passengers first.

You don’t have to mind the gap, for it is minimized between the tram car and the platform.

Pay your trip

Validate your ticket always when entering the tram. Show your Nysse travel card to the card reader. You can stamp the ticket you purchased on Nysse Mobile ticket at the bottom of the card reader by aligning the QR code with the green light. The contactless payment terminal is on the left side of the card reader. A valid paper ticket for a bus trip does not need to be stamped, but it must be kept for the duration of the trip.

Each module of the tram has two card readers. Especially during rush hours, it is suggested that people first entering the tram would validate their ticket on the further card reader so that everyone can get inside the tram smoothly.

Safely in tram

The tram runs smoothly, but be prepared for swings and sudden breaking. Hold the bar or loop if you are traveling standing. Also get support when moving around the tram.

Bicycles and strollers can be taken on board

There is also room for wheelchairs and rollators. Please, note that during the worst rush-hours, we cannot guarantee a space for bicycle or wheelchair.

Pets are also allowed to travel in tram. There are marked places in the tram, although they are primarily designed for those traveling with a guide dog. Those traveling with a pet can sit, for example, in the multipurpose area of the tram. There is no separate charge for pets.

Pay attention to your fellow travelers

Respect others by giving space. Enjoy messy or heavily scented food only after the trip.

Just enjoy the smooth ride and nice scenery. You can also charge your mobile phone with the USB plug!

Looking for stop button? Just relax and wait!

The tram stops at every stop. If needed, the doors can be opened by the passenger by pressing the Nysse button. Move forward to the platform from the middle doors or side doors.

Welcome aboard again!
